Sport in Val di Ledro

In Val di Ledro, lake and mountain form the common thread running through a huge range of sporting activities. This is thanks to the waters of Lake Ledro, which are not only very clean but also calm and safe for swimming, rarely stirred up by wind, and pleasantly warm in summer — on the hottest days the water can reach as much as 24°C! All these features make the lake and the whole valley the perfect destination for a varied, active holiday, letting you choose your favourite sport and change your plans and activities every day.
Among the best sporting experiences to enjoy at Lake Ledro are undoubtedly sailing, canoeing and windsurfing. At the four equipped beaches you can hire everything you need, from Optimist dinghies to catamarans and small sailing boats. First-timers can take lessons or learn the basics with instructors from local sports clubs. The same applies to wakeboarding, a mix of water skiing and snowboarding: towed by a motorboat, you glide across the water on a board, performing fun tricks along the way. At Lake Ledro the wind is never too strong, allowing these sports to be enjoyed to the full, while remaining completely safe.
Those who prefer a quieter pace can enjoy the lake by boat or paddle boat, hired on one shore and returned on the opposite one. Fishing enthusiasts will find clean waters where fine fish species thrive; a valid fishing permit is required, easily obtained from the Tourist Office or affiliated shops and bars.
The whole of Val di Ledro is an open-air gym offering endless activities: high-altitude hikes reward you with truly breathtaking views and follow in the footsteps of the First World War. Not to be missed from this point of view are Monte Corno, reachable from Tremalzo or Pieve, Cima d'Oro, reachable from Mezzolago, and Cima Parì, reachable from Malga Trat and the Rifugio Pernici. For the fitter, a wonderful route takes in the peaks of Val Concei, from Monte Pichea to Monte Cadria. Alternatively, there's the Ledro Trek, two routes of different lengths running along the valley floor or halfway up the slopes, walkable in every season.
Absolutely not to be missed is the legendary Strada del Ponale, connecting Riva del Garda to Biacesa: now closed to traffic, it offers unique, breathtaking views over Lake Garda.
Mountain bike enthusiasts will also find plenty to sink their teeth into, with over 200 km of trails to ride. High-altitude routes include the climb to Tremalzo and the one to Bocca di Trat - Rifugio Pernici, while down in the valley the cycle path from Lake Ledro to Lake Ampola is particularly lovely. Climbers won't be disappointed either: Val di Ledro is home to a number of crags and cliffs for climbing.
Pure adrenaline awaits those who choose canyoning: the gorges of the Palvico and Rio Nero streams are among the most highly rated by enthusiasts of the sport. Finally, you can choose the thrill of paragliding and admire Val di Ledro from above, taking off from Passo Trat or Passo Tremalzo.
